Welcome From our department Commander

May 8, 2010
Greetings Brothers,
When I was asked to become your new Department Commander my reply was that I felt that I had not earned that privilege yet. There was so many of you who told me you felt that I had. Your encouragement along with that of my wife, made my decision to accept so much easier. I thank you for your vote of confidence.
There is work to be done in the Department of Illinois. The success of a Department takes place in the Camps. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the officers of the Department to whether elected or appointed to make neccessary changes to these Camps what is needed for their success. We must improve the lines of communication between Camps by encouraging the to network with one another. Improve the Departments efficiency by using its financial resources in the most prudent, yet effective manner. Total commitment to the membership of each Camp with the various programs and projects they undertake is essential for the growth of our Camps and our future Camps. Success of the Camps = Success of the Department = The Success of Our Order.
I ask all brothers in the Department of Illinois to set a goal of bringing into your Camp one new member in the coming year. To encourage lapsed members to rejoin. I would like this Department to increase by one new camp a year for the foreseeable future. To encourage growth in counties not currently served by our order. As we prepare to enter the Sesquicentennial of our Civil War in the coming year. We may never have a better time to promote our Order by making ourselves known within our community. Veteran's groups, schools, scout troops, local government and local historical societies and to be recogonized as such by the general public throughout our state. When we place a headstone, rehab a cannon or repair a monument and dedicate them, we should always celebrate that event through the news media by saying "this was achieved by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War"
So let us all work together and set a new course for ourDepartment, and lets have fun doing it.
Regards in F. C. & L.
